They took a family photo the next day to have cards made to use for New Year's Greetings. She told me that if he was going to do it, it was going to be the best possible and, it was. He had apparently spent hours doing this creation of good cheer, sometimes during the night when his wife tried sneaking in to get a glimpse of the progress only to find she was locked out and told she had to wait. Those were days of pacing life and a little more formal with traditions practiced annually) The daughter opened the sliding doors for the viewing. All outer room lights were turned off with the guests standing in the dark eagerly awaiting the grand viewing (Apparently there was a practice in the past that each family on a block had a party from Christmas Eve through New Years Day for their grand viewing. Apparently the story got around and the block party came along with their invited guests and families. He played it up and unlocked the sliding doors and let his daughter open the doors for a huge number of guests.

Instead he went a step further, he would not let them see the tree until it was finished and made them wait until Christmas Eve to see the final result upon their block party that evening. Personally I began to expect a story about her husband being furious and ruining the season.

She spotted me and was eager to tell me about their tinsel tree. (Oddly enough I met the wife while doing some post Christmas Shopping. The lights reflecting off the tinsel and to the ornaments off the tinsel to create a glittering magical room for celebrating. In addition to the items it only takes 24 to 72 hours to complete but the result is so magical.

After touring all three floors they came out as a family and he turned to me and said, "Never, ever will I forgive you." - Actually it is an easy tree to decorate. Apparently his wife and daughter fell in love with the tinsel tree and told her husband: "From now on it is a tinsel tree." (Apparently he had them convinced their garland was nicer.) She even wrote down the steps in order to make it happen.

I was uncertain how to respond, so I merely smiled and continued to speak about the trees and 1800's home. One gentleman told me, "I will never forgive you for this!" He then walked away from me. Upon being on tour one year in the Soulard French Quarter in a 3 story home in Saint Louis, MO, we had a tree on each floor and one upon the second floor deck and served chestnuts just roasted on an open fire for each person upon leaving.

A simple Charlie Brown Style, a live one outdoors with only white lights and red bows, a tree with Horse Carousels which move up and down with flashing lights and music playing, a ceramic tree and the a live 12 foot Balsam Fir pine imported from Nova Scotia (branches are further apart for larger ornaments and tinsel plus some 100-200 year old fragile glass ornaments from Europe and the USA.) This one has 600 lights, 300 ornaments and 78,000 strands of tinsel each placed individually upon the limbs starting from the trunk outward, topped with a handmade angel. There are many styles of decorated trees I like so I usually have 5 theme Christmas Trees.
